Error - Attribute value not supported

Description

This error occurs when using _underscore_columns and uploading an invalid value.

The error will look something like this:

Value '{value}' is not valid for the column '{column_name}'.
The _underscore_columns have allowed values predetermined by Etsy.
The allowed values are provided in your template and are CaSE-SenSiTivE.

The problem is one of these:

• You uploaded an unsupported value for this category
• You uploaded the wrong category for this product

All the _underscore_columns have pre-defined values for Etsy. We cannot use anything except their allowed values. The only options are to comply with Etsy’s limited set of allowed values, or not use the column altogether.

This is particularly relevant with things like colors. We might have a product that a specific color “Rose”, but to fit Etsy’s requirements we have to use “Red” instead.

Solution

To fix this error:

• Use only the values provided in your template dropdowns
• Make sure the value is supported by your chosen category
• (variations) use a custom variation instead of an _underscore_column

If your template has multiple categories

Some _underscore_columns overlap with different categories but they have different supported values for each category.

The Shop Uploader Excel template has conditional formatting which will highlight the cells red if you’re using an unsupported value. Make sure you’re not using an unsupported value.

The Shop Uploader Excel template also has hidden sheets, that lists the exact values that are supported for each category.

You can also create a new template for each category to minimize confusion.

If you are using variations

Variations have special rules and are sometimes allowed to use custom values in _underscore_columns.

If you are getting this error while using an _underscore_column for your option1 or option2, you will need to change to a custom variation option.

Custom variations allow any values and are much more flexible. Most sellers opt to use custom variations so that they can perfectly describe their products.
